My Opinion of Dark Reign.

Box has cool screen shots, lists interesting features that
sound good. I open the box, fairly thick manual - a good thing.
I notice only a single disk "Hope this doesn't suck goes through
my mind as I get a flash of KKND, maybe they have little or no cut
screens that they don't need another disk?"

Proceed with install. Awesome sound during install. Cool
graphics. Flip through the manual while waiting and read some
really cool features. Install was easy and straight forward.
Ran the maximum install for best performance, hard disk space
required about 250 - 270 megs.

Run Game. Start single player. Watched intro which was
really cool but somewhat lengthy. I am a little worried on
how much space was consumed by all the cut scenes/music.
Game starts, I play a couple of missions, here is my opinion.

1. Screen shots match those on box; however, the screen
shots put the game in a better light than when you
are actually playing the game.

2. Game engine & interface SUCKS! Plays like a feature
enriched KKND.

3. The game instructions says it supports two players over
a modem, well it does. It just doesn't menction that both
players must buy a copy. This goes against most other
real time games.

4. I had purchased this game for modem play, do I have my
buddy buy a copy to play over the modem? HELL NO! The
game sucks, why waste another $55 for two players to
play a game that sucks! I promply returned my copy. As
added insult I found out that a couple of days after I
paid $55 for my copy it was already reduced to $47. Well
I was still given a full refund, which I spent on its
competitor TOTAL ANNALIATION. I have only had a chance
to play one mission so far but I am pleased with the
game play and features.

Overall Activision has not got the picture what gamers want
in a real time game. The game engine definetely not in the
same league as a warcraft II or C&C engine. This game will
be purchased based on its marketing and available screen shots
which look nice. It will not be a game that gets rave reviews
or one that has long lasting playability. This game was meant
to hit the market fast while the real time games are hot.

This is my opinion. I am not long or short on ATVI (or any of
its competitors). Just giving you a gamers perspective of
a much anticipated game that left me very disappointed! I will
not buy any future titles that ATVI develops in the near future.
I would by titles that ATVI markets from other companies such as
ID etc. Take this info any way you like.
