The only thing that is true is that the Afghanistan protests were smaller than the later Iraq protests. But today's Left is 100% against any use of US military power, for any reason.<<

I remember the situation quite well.

While it is true there were small numbers of people protesting around the world, the fact remains that the various nations who joined us in deposing the Taliban in Afghanistan did so quickly, willingly, and without coercion on the part of our government.

The fact is also that many liberals, including me, supported the move against the Taliban, since they had been directly involved in an attack against us.

As for "today's Left" and their attitude about the use of military power, that depends on where you draw the line and what you call left. You are generalizing far too broadly.

PS: By the way, do you really think there's something wrong with trying to understand one's enemies or to figure out root causes? In "The Art of War" one of the main points is that if you don't understand your enemy, you have no hope of defeating him. That was true thousands of years ago, and it's true now.
