Hi El Mat - There is some hiring in Silicon Valley right now, not like the boom years, but a better job market than 18 monhts ago. There is also supposed to be an increase in H-1B visas, and soem other technical visas.

I think you are right, the pond you were in is getting smaller, at least for right now.

You might consider looking at your skills in broad terms, engineering, project management, etc.

Then cast a wide net - see what's overseas on the R&D engineering, and operations areas.

Mobile phone infrastructure may be 90% complete, but WiFi, WiMax, and whatever RF thing Google is up to are just starting.
Also hanging a GPS/phone on every peice of expensive capital equipment to track location, performance, maintence, etc.

Most places still don't have wireless utility meter reading.

BTW, Google is setting up an R&D center in Belo Horizonte. Seems mostly IT/software, about 700 km away from you, but closer than Nigeria ;-)

I have made a couple of these tranisitions, from design to appliciations, then to marketing. Step learning curve, but a lot of things carry over. Also the money got better, sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly.
