Reminds me of a line from a George Bernard Shaw play where a real snooty guy announces, "I have always believed in the dignity of labor."

His chauffeur replies, "That's because you have never done any."

People toss around the terms socialist and fascist at the slightest hint of state policy moving vaguely in the direction those two words represent. But I doubt most of those people have ever dealt with a real socialist or pro-fascist type of person or movement in real life, only in distant history books.

Socialism and fascism are useful analytical constructs to understand political movements outside the confines of what we see in the US day to day. But I have never come across anything or anyone in a prominent position that actually advocated a pure, authentic form of either.

And on that note, I have to bail out of here for a while.
