I was surprised when I got to Amsterdam and saw the road construction and cleaning crews were all white guys, in a country with a ton of immigrants. Must be a union thing somehow. Government pays more to meet the wage demands of those workers, all done in a social welfare context.

In general, Europeans accept the cost of the benefits they get. Sure they gripe about taxes but they rarely vote in anyone who would really change much.
