Europeans Support Bush on Nuclear Stance

VIENNA, Austria (AP) - President Bush won solid European support Wednesday for his handling of escalating nuclear crises with North Korea and Iran but was challenged over the Iraq war, the U.S. prison camp in Cuba and rising anti-American sentiment.

Here's an article that supports an idea I've been posting about. When I pointed out that Bush had squandered an unprecedented level of international goodwill after 9/11, you said that it would never have lasted anyway.

I considered that to be cutting the President too much slack, and I still do.

While it may be true that many of the countries that have never liked us might have reverted to their traditional feelings eventually, it's clear that our actions do have something to do with how we are perceived. Bush has even alienated many of our allies, and bears the responsibility for having done so.

Now we see that some of the same nations who did not support the move in Iraq are willing to support Bush when he is acting more like a world leader than a schoolyard bully. This should be instructive, and Bush should be held accountable for his own actions.
