As a feminist, I don't see how the responsibilities are joint. Men and women have competing interests at stake here. The young men want sex. The young women want love. Loving a baby is love. Babies love you back. I am not saying that all the indoctrination comes from the Southern Baptist church, the fundamentalists and the evangelicals. There's the examples from their own parents and the other adults in their milieu. There's what they see on TV and movies and billboards and magazines. And it can't have escaped their attention that for privileged white women (think Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow), babies are also status symbols.
