I don't believe that population size will be much of an advantage in the 21st century.

In fact, pollution and deterioration of the environment may harm both China and India to a point where they will lose competitiveness.

Given limited resources, water and farmland, the challenges for these population rich countries are only going to grow. China is attempting to address these issues to some limited but growing degree but from what I can see India is not even close.
