“Cut-And-Run” Kerry and other defeatist Democrats in the Senate are not serious about fighting the War on Terror and undeserving of leading our country.
The leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, is dead. And American troops – along with their increasingly effective allies in the Iraqi military and police forces – have captured or killed 161 of Zarqawi’s leaders – key elements in the command and control of the terrorist network.
Iraq is now led the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Jawad al-Maliki, a government committed to facing the challenges of terrorism and corruption, and to moving Iraq’s fledgling democracy forward on the path of freedom. I believe they’ll succeed as long as we do not break faith with them.
Unfortunately, just as we are making such important military and political progress in Iraq, Democrats in the Senate are working to ensure American failure in Iraq by requiring immediate troop withdrawals.
John Kerry – who voted for the war in Iraq before he voted against it – is now leading the far-left of his party by advocating a policy of retreat. And he’s working to impose his infamous “global test” on our prosecution of the War on Terror by requiring the President to consult with the tyrants who rule Syria and Iran, with the leaders of the Arab League, with the European Union, and with Russia and China, amongst others.
Kerry’s policy would result in the disintegration of Iraq and the strengthening of the Middle East’s sworn enemies of America. But at least he’s honest enough to openly support surrender. Other Democrats– knowing that the American people will not cut-and-run and will not look kindly on those politicians who want to – have cloaked their policy of retreat and defeat in moderate sounding language like “phased redeployment.” But, make no mistake, this proposal would establish an artificial timetable for withdrawal of American troops before their mission is completed. And this proposal would let our Iraqi allies know that we’ll abandon them to the terror of Zarqawi’s successors by a date certain.
