He replied that he wouldn't do the work he does if he had to work in a software shop that demanded planning, modeling, staging, testing, etc., all that stuff that underpins effectiveness and professionalism. He sees that mode as not fun.

Thank goodness SI hasn't become a sterile corporate entity - yet. Imagine what a big company would do to our pleasant little playground.
