Line-Item Veto

Kathryn Jean Lopez
The Corner

Debate on Paul Ryan's bill is going on now. Another bright young conservative congressman, Jeb Hensarling just said of it:

<<< Line item veto has been supported by the last three Democratic Presidential candidates. The last time it came to the House, 2/3 of the Democrats supported it. But since this is an election year, the Democratic leadership again says no. But NO is not an agenda, NO is not a vision and by saying NO to the legislative line item veto, Democrats are saying YES to more wasteful spending.

The legislative line item veto represents a simple but important tool in the fiscal responsibility tool box. And everyone, EVERYONE knows that this debate is about corralling the hogs and slicing the pork out of the budget. If you want to prevent bridges to nowhere, spending on hydroponic tomatoes and funding the indoor rainforest, say yes to the line item veto. >>>

Ryan talked to NRO about the bill here .
