Wind farms benefit from proposed Montanta electricity link .......................

Shaun Polczer, Calgary Herald

Published: Thursday, June 22, 2006

Alberta's fast growing wind power industry is set to benefit from an application by a Calgary company to link into the Montana electricity grid.

Bob Williams, a vice-president with Montana Alberta Tie Ltd., said construction of the proposed 300 megawatt (MW) transmission line from Lethbridge to Great Falls, Mont. could result in an additional 400 wind mills along with investments of up to $1 billion in the southern part of the province.

"That's a lot of wind turbines," he said. "You need transmission lines so wind power can get to market...no wires, no wind mills."
