SAN JOSE, Calif. — Amkor Technology Inc. on Monday (August 22) announced that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued a "formal order" of investigation concerning certain trading in the company’s securities.
Chip packaging and test giant Amkor (Chandler, Ariz.) last year said that the SEC is conducting an informal inquiry over alleged inside trading at the company. The company has also reported a series of losses amid a downturn in the packaging sector.

“Amkor believes that the investigation continues to relate to transactions in the company's securities by certain individuals, including certain insiders or former insiders and persons associated with them,” according to Amkor (Chandler, Ariz), a provider of chip packaging and testing services.

The primary focus of the investigation appears to be activities during the period from June 2003 to July 2004. Amkor has cooperated fully with the SEC on the informal inquiry and said it will continue to do so with the formal investigation.
