I have found South Africans and Aussies have as much penchant for being fast operators and slicksters as any group in the resource industry. To put is softly, they have an aggressive and well developed self-interest on the average. My first impression from a distance was that they were people who operated from a lofty set of principles in a fair and astute manner. This has not always proven to be the case and proves what a danger it is to stereotype to the positive excessively.

What is said about the mine in point in politically charged and uncertain PNG is not surprising given this energy environment and it is to be expected. That it would impinge on economics is a given, all you have to do it multiply the cost factor times the interest rate (IRR) times the pay back period, or more properly to the power of the payback period.
