Sonki,
Sun is trying for a coup - to get an ISO standard over which it has effective control. This has yet to be done by a single company. If Sun fails to get this, they simply will continue with attempting to standardize de facto via their license agreements. The articles point this out. Sun will proceed the same technically in any event.
Microsoft and the other signers of the letter obviously want fewer arrows in Scott's quill, so they are happy to turn the situation around on Sun. Microsoft will proceed the same technically in any event.
All of this is neat gamemanship, with the true heart of the battle lying elsewhere, as being separating Java the language from Java the operating environment, which Microsoft will pursue regardless of what Sun or ISO does.
There are lots of ISO standards which are widely unused or ignored, so having an ISO standard by itself guarantees nothing - but it is a useful lever, and some users, particularly government, like to make some widely-supported ISO standards part of RFPs.
Sonki, you know that I know your trading style - you have the ability to consistently spot secondary tech stocks which are about to click for a good ride up - a kind of feel for what the stock-buying public will want next! This requires both a gift and devotion of time - and temperament. As you are primarily long-term with solid companies, and are obviously gifted, why should you not benefit from your gift with your flings? ;-)
[Re: NASDAQ. It certainly has been "flying thru the root making new highs"! Great for secondaries and small caps. As a result, the S&P 500 also made a new high yesterday. This makes both indexes up about 30% for the year (vs. about 24% for the Dow), excluding dividends. Extraordinary. As you know, Wintel has greatly outdistanced both, this year and for the past several.]
[Re: VVUS & 100% in a month. What can I say - gifted.]
IMHO
