I would ask, though, what public purpose is being served by the NY Times publishing investigator's methods and sources? The thing that comes immediately to my own mind is that, as they admit, the Bush administration takes the position that we are at war with international terrorism and in times of war the President has authority to disregard all laws. It's a sweeping assumption of executive power that, to put it mildly, isn't agreed to by all. If the administration wants to sue them, I am sure the NYTimes editorial staff and lawyers would love to play. They don't always win but they win a lot of these cases.
