Saddam mainly built palaces for himself and statues of himself. He is similar to a Mussolini type, a rightwing dictator. He ruled over an ethnically split country (which WWII allies artificially created) which meant that to keep order he had to crack down against sectarian violence. Of course he was a tyrant and meglomaniac, but he was not involved with terrorism, nor Islamic fundamenalists. In fact, they were his enemies and he feared them.

So who were Saddam's friends? Well his favorite leader was Ronald Reagan.

If you listen to Bushies though, Al Qaida and Saddam were the same thing. A total big fat baseless lie which many in this country who listen to Hannity-Limbaugh propaganda every day still believe. The rightwing's abilityb to stay in power depends on keeping tens of millions of American voters ignorant and misled.
