The problem isn't so much inflation but that low end wages are not keeping up with inflation.

Of course, the low income wage earner always is the last to benefit.

And housing costs are a serious inflation problem in many areas of the country.

First of all, the writer is from NYC. You are from FLA. In general, housing costs are more of a problem for people in those areas than in other areas. In many areas of the country, people are concerned with housing costs but not to the degree of obsession in places like CA, FL, NYC, Boston, etc. Having said that, it is a problem for all low income wage earners.

And having said THAT, the problems of low income wage earners are more than just about housing costs. They are multi faceted and complex. A raise in the minimum wage would help but would not even begin to solve their problems. Many low income wage earners are so dysfunctional they can't work full time. Too often, the American solution to problems is a quick money fix.

Either accept that you don't want to fix the problem, and put these people on a fixed income and in a sheltered housing situation and forget about them, or attack the problem head on and do what has to be done to make as many of these people whole as possible.

The problem in this country is that we've chosen to do neither. That's why we have so many homeless people living out of cars and cardboard boxes. Its why we have so many urban slums [for a first world country].
