Some data from the heart and soul of notebook manufacturing:

Taiwan notebook makers shipped 13.8 million units in the first quarter of 2005, down 12% from the previous quarter, as inventory and supply issues served to further weaken a traditional down quarter. On-year growth fell to 38% in the quarter, compared to 48% during the same period last year.

It looks as units are actually up on year to year base (looking at the table -see link- unit growth appears very healthy - 30% or so) but the shift towards emerging markets and perhaps AMD caused drop in ASP.
So it's really not a unit demand issue like the report indicates - it's the drop in ASP.
