But what I think you meant to say is that you think it is funny, comical, laughable.......what ever........ that some people....like two conservative Senators........are pointing to these 500 old shells as further proof that there were/are WMDs in Iraq.

It IS funny. With a touch of pathetic.

Picture some little old lady standing up in front of a group and crowing about having been a beauty queen in her day. And then she triumphantly trots out some little plastic trophy that named her Lima Bean Princess of Hooterville . You either laugh at her or you feel sorry for her or both. If she had matter of factly mentioned that she had once won a beauty contest and showed you her trophy you would have said "isn't that nice" and given her a big smile. But when she presents it like she was Miss Universe or some such, she appears ridiculous.

That's what makes this business of the old shells funny. It's not the the shells are meaningless, it's the contrast between their reality and the way they were presented. Last night on The Daily Show they were making fun of the Miami Seven. One of them was shown saying that they were going to prosecute a "full ground war" against the US. Stewart quips that, while he's not a general, it would seem that to prosecute a "full ground war" you'd need at least as many players as a softball team, and laughter ensued. It's the contrast that makes it funny.
