Multi-Head Open System Virtual Tape Library to Complement KEL's Mainframe VTL

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2006--FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), the leading developer of proven data protection solutions, today announced an OEM partnership with Kanematsu Electronics Ltd. (KEL), a leading IT solutions provider in Japan. The agreement between KEL and FalconStor provides for the development and integration of a version of FalconStor's VirtualTape Library (VTL) software that is fully customized and optimized for KEL's EG-4500 open line of storage appliances.

KEL had approached FalconStor with the idea of integrating FalconStor VTL software with their EG-4500 appliances, and the companies have collaborated to achieve this goal. FalconStor's leading, field-proven VTL technology was a key factor in KEL's decision in choosing an OEM partner. The addition of FalconStor VTL technology to the EG-4500 appliance complements KEL's existing portfolio of data protection and backup acceleration solutions for midsize and enterprise class organizations and is designed to synergistically and seamlessly co-exist with the company's current mainframe VTL solution in customer IT environments. The company's goal is for their customers to realize seamless, truly unified management between the two different VTL appliances.

"In an open storage environment, where data is constantly increasing, shortening the backup window is of utmost importance. There is also a need to support the existing heterogeneous environment as much as possible, while enabling consolidated backup, with disaster recovery and future compliance matters addressed according to a hierarchical management architecture," said Atsushi Kano, general manager at Kanematsu Electronics. "Leveraging FalconStor's VTL technology within our EG-4500 Series appliance eliminates the dependency on a rigid backup window and complements our existing line of mainframe VTL appliances. This type of solution is in demand and will allow us to expand our business opportunities in the midrange and high-end IT environments." Mr. Kano added, "KEL is looking forward to the results of the cooperation between our two companies, which will enable the seamless unification of the EG-4500 open system and legacy VTL mainframe systems."

By enhancing its cost-effective, high performance, high reliability EG-4500 series storage appliance with VTL technology, KEL has created an open-system VTL appliance that takes advantage of FalconStor VTL's accelerated backup and restore functionality, for an exceptional ratio of price to performance. With a flexible pricing structure, the EG-4500E's storage capacity ranges from 500 Gigabytes to 30 Terabytes of RAID 5 storage. KEL's EG-4500E is the company's mainframe VTL, supporting Hitachi, Fujitsu, and IBM environments, with a maximum of 128 virtual disk drives.

"The open systems VTL market has been gaining momentum in Japan, and Kanematsu Electronics' extensive IT experience enables them to effectively leverage FalconStor VTL technology to service their mid-and-large size customers," said Mr. Noboru Aoki, FalconStor Japan sales director. "KEL has been receiving many similar requests from multiple existing customers, and the release of their OEM open VTL offering aims to fulfill their customer's IT requirements. FalconStor looks forward to further collaboration and development with KEL to provide additional storage solutions to their customers."
