You realize that several papers published this, not just the Times, right? The background on all this will be fascinating once the genuinely good books about this admin get written. Rumours yesterday, so take them as that, were that as soon as the admin learned the Times would publish (after the two or three weeks of conversation between the two), the admin then leaked the story, deliberately, to the WSJ and the LA Times. Perhaps others. I still think the WH reaction is best read as part of its current "mobilize the base" strategy.
