I watched a show the other day on how art has reflected and created human history. The Egyptian obsession with order leading to their representative human form (sideways, head to the side, both palms facing the viewer, etc.) which lasted for centuries. Then the Greek realistic human forms. Then the idealized human forms, etc. All this evolution of art being concomitant with change in human ideas, social systems, politics, etc.--all influencing all and being influenced by all. On the other hand (as you said), reproduction is not a passing fad of many--but rather THE vehicle (or path) upon which the evolution of a species depends.
