No major media outlet in the United States has ever knowingly, and over the objection of the United States government, ever published classified information that could assist the nation’s enemies. Period What is so striking about this last case is that the justification was so lame. They could not even pretend to be exposing abuses, though they tried to imply them. The only explanation is that the New York Times has the mentality of an opposition party. The Bush Administration, obsessed with a War on Terror which the NYT doesn't believe really exists, is determined to gather more & more secret powers to the US Government, and it's the NYT's job to expose and prevent these attempts. That's what it boils down to.
