Who knows? My concern is that the Israelis are just reacting tactically. They're missing the chance to change the rules. They should declare Hamas/PA an enemy state and notify them of the state of war, instead of complaining that they didn't stop the terror, which is what they had to do under Arafat. This last attack was not a terror attack; it was a military ambush on soldiers. Israel should say: Fine, you want war? So have your wish - and by the way you can stop expecting us to pay the electric and water bills for you. You're on your own in Gaza.

Instead, they are just hitting back at the Palestinians. As always, the stopwatch is running during Israeli actions; in a few days you will hear the choruses of "collective punishment" and "disproportionate response" grow louder. And if they don't get the hostage back then Hamas can claim to have 'won' the round.
