The US had the opportunity to lead the world in rebuilding Iraq. But it squandered away that opportunity, when it restricted the bid process to only US contractors and those from coalition countries. Bush's justification for his actions was that only those countries who helped the US in the war merited the sharing of the gains of rebuilding.

Also consider this. If Mr. Maliki is the head of a sovereign Govt., should he not have been taken into confidence about the secret visit by Bush? If it is unsafe for a US President to be in Baghdad and if the news of his secret visit cannot be shared with the head of a democratically elected Govt. such as Malliki's, then the least we could have done is to not send Bush there.

What do you think was Bush trying to prove when he secretly crossed the borders of a sovereign nation?
