The sophisticated argument is that the universe was created to look as if it was old. You can't disprove it but the question then is why? . This is what Jewish fundamentalists who want to believe the literalness of the Bible will say. It is interesting that this seems to be most important to Christian fundamentalists. These issues of least or no importance to Muslims and most religious Jews don't think it is important. If the theory of evolution is useful to understand biology then use it. It isn't important whether that evolution actually happened or not. With the created as is argument it doesn't matter. Typical Jewish approach to having your cake and eating it :)
