Money is fungible, and so are investment dollars. When the financial markets move in and out of more speculative investments, the pinks react as well.

My guess is the reaction occurs at the individual investor level. If they find the larger cap speculative stocks overpriced, they'll drill down in capitalization until they find a bargain they like. The fact that funds can't flow that low because of their size does not preclude smaller investors from reacting accordingly.
