But when a theory "prevails" it is to simply say "this is the best we have now", and you wait for more data to come in. THAT is the scientific way... when you do otherwise, ie. deny possible alternatives out of hand simply because they don't make as much sense (to you) at that moment, is to embrace a belief system.
