having experience both addictions. i found alcohol the big time killer for me. cigs i quit for a year and went back smoking up to three packs a day, finally quit second time around. but alcohol took me another 30 years and close to death to quit. I was fortunate many do not survive and statistics do not always show reason for death by alcohol.. rather it is kidney failure, heart failure, stroke, car crash etc. then we need to look at the bankruptcies, broken marriage, abuse and mental problems.

I still have relatives , friends who cannot quit smoking. They all started as children.
