How anyone could even think of dropping 150,000 people into an area, and out on a whim is ...breathtaking, to say the least.

And that remains the largest problem in Afghanistan. The Pakis are hesitant to support larger numbers of Coalition forces in Afghanistan, since they believe it will destabilize their own tenuous grip on power by agitating their militant factions.

But then again, the militant factions in Pakistan's government, and in particular, their intelligence service, continue to have powerful people who sympathize with the Taliban, and who thwart the US goal of capturing Bin Laden and Zawahiri (and others).

This is my perception of the current situation in Pakistan, but maybe I should contact Iqbal Latif for his viewpoint.
