The amount you paid on that AMD sale sounds ridiculous but you needn't necessarily go with Accutrade or whoever. What about a discount broker (I assume you are Canadian having visited Casino Rama) like TD Green Line (not the cheapest but top notch service)? I paid $60 commission to buy some COS, and it would have been 10% less had I wanted to use the automated order entry option (by phone or by computer). By September they will be offering a full service website where clients will be able to do all trades, track portfolio, get research, etc. NO, I don't work for them. Obviously with discount brokers you're on your own but at least they don't try to get you into mining stocks and otherwise put ideas in your head (like a regular broker).
