I made no such conclusion.
I stated the universe had a beginning.
I have no idea what happened before or even if "before" makes sense.

That statement is already out of date. Yes the universe expanded from gumball to expansive and coasted along for 8 or 9 billion years. About 4-5 billion years ago something else happened, and the universe is not just expanding, but accelerating.

There are lots of interesting things being discovered and lots more to come. It's unlikely that rehashing old puzzles by Aristotle or Plato or St. Thomas is going to contribute much to the discoverys.
