Harry Reid is not guilty of aiding Abramoff. It's true that Reid tried to help stop the expansion of tribal gambling and got money from a law firm which was connected to Abramoff (though not Abramoff himself or his immediate circle). But here's the rub, as senator from Nevada, Reid has always done everything he could to protect Nevada's gambling industry from competition. That's one of his job #1's and makes total sense. Therefore, whatever letters he had written to try and stem increased tribal gambling were in perfect synck with his long-standing record and his state constituents. Reid also neber knew or met with Abramoff.

Contrast this with Republican Senator Burns who got big money from Abramoff then went on the warpath for a tribe from Michigan. Burns is from Montana and had no otehr reason to help any tribe from Michigan except being bribed to do so. Then all the other scandals involving so many rightwing congressmen and GOP movers and shakers.

It is well established that Abramoff never gave democrats a dime, and was associated exclusively with the far rightwing of the GOP, especially Tom Delay and Karl Rove. He was part of the movement to deny democrats access to lobbyist money.

If there is any democratic involvement with Abramoff, it is indirect and minimal. I would say 99% of the Abramoff scandal is rightwing GOP related. No democrats nor even GOP moderates. I could be wrong but judging by what I've read that looks pretty clear.
