"Anything "around" the Gumball is outside the universe. Since the universe is expanding it seems to imply that it is expanding into something, but that something is likewise, outside the universe."

Now you are simply contradicting terms. The term 'Universe' is used to refer to everything and every phenomenon that can be postulated into temporal existence. So, you can't dismiss things as existing outside the universe because as soon as you postulate their existence they become part of the Universe, like wise the 'something' that the universe is expanding into.

"You can't actually add up the individual infitesimal areas, but you can take the limit as they approach zero.

Zero is nothing. Are you claiming the Universe came from nothing? Was it nothing and then a gumball at a single point in time and space? How did we go from nothing to the gumball? You said you had proof, where is it?

"These questions would be interesting to know, but they don't actally address the question of the beginning of space, and therefore the beginning of time."

They are the heart of that question, which you said you had proof for. Where is it? How do you know the universe isn't in a constant state of flux, inflating and deflating?
