He just said it. How else can you possibly interpret:

We aren't citizens of Egypt or Saudi Arabia. Nor do we expect OUR country to merely match THEIR low standards, based on an entirely different culture and foundation


You can interpret exactly as it is written, which isn't that complex.

He's not Saudi or Egyptian.

He expects the US to do better than what he considers the low standards in those two countries.

Your two conclusions So you don't care about universal human rights. You only care how Americans behave. don't follow from what he wrote at all. He can still care about universal human rights and want the US to do better in that area than those two countries. And he can still care about how non-Americans behave while wanting the US to behave better than those two countries. You're basically putting words in his mouth, so you can then critisize the words, even thought the words are yours, not his.

You've got it wrong because you are trying to tell him what he thinks rather than letting him speak for himself.
