I think you are unlikely to ever get the kind of specifics you would like to see because that kind of information is likely to remain classified. It seems to me that you are left with a choice to accept the information that this was an effective and useful program, as the statements of the New York Times and the government officials involved in the program state, (as related in the articles and editorials of the New York Times) or not.

As Milton Friedman said, you're "free to choose." ;-)

BTW, I've seen no statement by anyone involved in this program, or briefed on this program (including the New York Times editors) alleging that this program ceased being useful at any time prior to publication. Have you?
