Actually, I've read plenty of allegations that outing Valerie Plame forced the CIA to roll up an anti-nuclear proliferation program.

And given the forthright nature of the CIA, which is clearly the source of these allegations, they are the gospel truth, right?

Let's see.

You are someone more or less evil in the global nuclear market, a Dr. No type, and have been dealing with superspy Valerie Plame, or some of her associates. You might have determined as part of your background work that she's married to Joe Wilson, not too hard a thing to do if you have her tailed, an activity which, incidentally, leads to the realization that she spends a lot of time at a more or less secret location in Langley. Your antennae immediately start twitching violently [CIA + married to an ex-ambassador to Iraq, even Dr. No can see the connections], your paranoia goes through the roof. Suddenly phone calls to Dr. No are not returned, his mail comes back undeliverable, he's disappeared.

Then evil Karl Rove outs her and her thriving network goes down the gurgler. In the meantime, after years of dogged prosecutorial investigation, no one gets prosecuted for endangering national security.

I guess it could happen....on the other side of the looking glass.
