I don't think there's any doubt now that the Bush people are trying to turn this into a big deal for political reasons, get the base out, etc. You've just pointed out one reason; the delay in the fake outrage--story comes out on a Thursday, we get the staged outrage the following Monday; etc.

These guys really lust for the imperial presidency. And when they are called out, attack with cries of "treason."

Fascinating. Never thought I would see it again in my lifetime.
