Builders, Maronda Homes, as an example, make quantity deals with suppliers and then contract to have the product/material they provide installed. Imagine the pricing a large builder can negotiate when buying 20-30 containers a year.... Factor in the shipping costs and installation and I believe the cost is far less than most people believe. Of course, the small builder doing 6-12 homes a year can't go this route. I'd even bet that if you were a big outfit, the shipping costs would get cut down drastically.
