but soc sec has expanded to many other things. like aid to dependent children. widow mothers get soc sec until child reaches certain age 16/18?

i have no idea how many various programs come under soc sec. but it is certainly more than the retirement fund first planned.

if we want forced savings then private savings accounts. If democrats what a social program then get money some place else other than continue to increase fees for social security from the young and not adjust requirement for eligible date to receive soc sec.

for now soc sec needs to be fixed and my point was democrats and some republicans wouldn't go there for fear of not being elected back into office or in democrat case fear of Bush getting credit for fixing soc sec. so they would rather let it continue to run up expenses without a fix until they get back into office.
