Any UN corruption was small change. They did keep an administrative fee for running the program. If the US had any problem with that, they could have spoken out and reduced the overhead fees. Instead, once Bush came into power, the US waged a smear campaign against the UN totally misrepresenting and exaggerating the "corruption" at the UN.

As Volcker states clearly, there was no evidence of any corruption by the UN per se, just some hanky-panky by middlemen. These same type middlemen are still at work in Iraq skimming Bushie deals. Maybe they just have Texas accents now instead though.

As I explained, Bush-Cheney represent the Texas oil companies and Saudi shieks in this matter and their #1 bone to pick was the fact Elf-Aquitaine had negotiated an oil deal with Saddam, when they wanted it for themselves. By invading Iraq unilaterally (without UN or significant allied help outside the UK) Bush-Cheney was able to take the French contract away and give it to Halliburton instead. Exxon, BP and other friendly oil giants may have also gotten a piece of the pie.

Linked to the smears against the UN (which does marvelous work around the world in many respects and which was badly needed in Iraq for peacekeeping and nation building) was the Bushie pre-war promise that Iraqi oil would pay for the US war costs. I heard Sean Hannity promnise that to his audience. Wolfowitz and other WH leaders said the same thing.

Bushies promised the war would bring down the price of gasoline. Just the opposite has happened and the US taxpayers haven't seen a dime of oil money. In fact it is probable that billions of Iraqi petro dollars are being stolen by Halliburton and related Bushie companies. We also know that more then 10 billion is missing in Iraq. But Bushies refuse to investigate.
