It's easy to believe that Israel is the only cause of the trouble, cause that's what the Arabs keep saying. But it's not true. Hatred of the West (first Spain, then Britain and France, then the US), and blaming it for all local ills, is deep rooted in the Arab world and predates the creation of Israel by at least 150 years. Israel became the lightning rod for this generalized hatred, the focus of it, because it was right there. It wasn't the original cause.

I don't think so. What proof do you have that Arabia hated the USA (we're talking the USA here, not "the West") before 1900. Wasn't the USA even on the Arabs side in the Suez Canal crisis? Arabs have no reason to have any opinion, positive or negative, on non-Muslim countries that don't border Muslim lands, ie Japan, USA, South America, Australia.

My point is that US support for Israel is the main cause of the Arab's dislike for the USA. If there was no Israel, the Arab's view of America would likely be similar to Arab's view of Japan, ie, general indifference.
