You won't succeed if you treat your employees badly. They need to understand the ups and downs of the economic cycles though. It used to be that you just had to watch Detroit to know what was coming.

When you mention goals, that is important. I want to know their goals when I hire them. They are something we have to share and times are not always good.

Unions reward time served just like the government. I reward based on profits. Hell, even the March of Dimes gets more when times are good for me.

A pat on the back once in a while means more then money to someone like me.
