Robert; Intel may try to parlay the Rambus license, and the funny chip carrier and the need for a chip set into a proprietary gap that will last about 6 months until the competition end runs it. In that 6 months they will try to wrench the market far enough along it's new path to make it a de-facto new standard to inhibit AMD etc. However they do not seem to realize that the standard is rapidly losing it's dependance on Intel, and it becoming a 'Gatescode' standard. Any chip that will run gatescode will sell, and any chip maker can licence Rambus for a small fee.(most memory makers are on line) so there may be a failure for Intel in this endeavour. A split standard will ensue with more expensive ones having "Intel Guts" stickers, and the others guaranteed "Intel free"
Remember IBM failed in a similar attempt.
