CDMA in India. 3 issues from my side why GSM beats CDMA hands down. First. Go see the second hand markets in Delhi - it is huge. None are CDMA - they're all GSM. They come in via tax havens like Dubai as black market (no VAT, no import duty) and you can buy second-hand phones that are 1-2yrs old for $10 each, then you can buy a $2 SIM card and away you go. Second. Compare BSNL's coverage with any CDMA carrier and its way deeper. There is so much middle class willing to pay for service outside the big cities, and BSNL has them signed up early - they have such an advantage on coverage. Lastly don't forget Nokia is the no1 brand in India, far ahead of Coke. They have such following that everyone wants one.
