Are you going to see the movie? I'm not. I don't understand why the real reason is so important to you. It seems to me that Superman is long past being much more than a cultural cliche. There are plenty of plausible reasons for the change and some have be mentioned here. There are undoubtedly many others just as plausible.

Based on what you wrote, I doubt you will be satisfied by any answer that does not confirm your supposition. All of this political posturing over a movie reminds me of the adage that "there is no such thing as bad publicity." Whoever produced, wrote and directed it must be thrilled. Perhaps that was their intent.
