Even with all the things that were wrong with the 50's, there is a certain nostalgic feeling of that era for many Americans. Perhaps it's more deeply felt amongst white Americans. It was a golden era. Things were real and simple. Perhaps we were ignoring, or not seeing some of the bad stuff. There was a feeling of optimism and a feeling of awakening. We had Elvis and the '57 Chev. Life was good for middle class white America.
