Time about 3:21pm 9/23/97 Macromedia Up 8%; Co. Mentioned As Takeover Target NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Shares of Macromedia Inc. (MACR) improved 7.6%, possibly on a mention of the company in the San Francisco Chronicle. Columnist Herb Greenberg wrote in an article that Macromedia, which provides software tools and technologies for design and delivery of digital media, "is said to be on the auction block." A Macromedia official said there was no corporate news to report, but later was unavailable to comment on the speculation of a sale. Analysts were unaware of any specific news affecting the stock. Shares of Macromedia recently were up 7/8 to 12 7/16 on Nasdaq volume of 1.9 million shares, compared with average daily turnover of 661,300. -Thomas Granahan
