riding the Gore train
Haven't seen the film (I'm not even sure it's out over here), but I've been going in what I presume is the same direction as that train since about age 8, when I started reading up on science, and riding alongside for 20 years at least. To be fair, the environmental movement may have a longer tradition here. I'd mostly given up declaiming it here a while back, I think before the film was out, because it is being treated as a partisan issue, and people clearly bright enough simply refuse to accept logic and evidence. Whereas in actuality, to be blunt, the Earth doesn't give a flying f*ck about US politics. It's not going to magically shed CO2 however much Rove spins it, nor cool down however Fox fulminates.
(riding the Gore train) lets you feel good Doesn't make me feel good - more like nervous. I see what we're heading for and there's nothing to feel good about.
it accomplishes nothing Wharfy's pointed out many ways to accomplish something in the last day alone. You've been sent links to many more. A reduction is a reduction. Each individual action may be small, you may even view them as insignificant, but they add up. Cells in a body, if you like. And if you're already living in a low-impact fashion, well done. Please don't deride and disturb the efforts of others to to or advise likewise, because most people (especially in the US) do not live this way.
I'm not sure what the rest of your post is expected to say, actually. I presume I'm meant to be insulted or reproved somehow? Never mind. |
